I had been bugging almost everybody I know to go the the Les Sans Culottes and Dengue Fever show at El Cid with me last night. Tony had to work. Wayne and Ilana were out of town. Meredith wasn't sure about her work schedule. Lisa was going to Comicon in San Diego. I couldn't get a real commitment anywhere. I was dying. A show featuring a band from Brooklyn that revitalized 60s/70s French pop and rock?!? Opened by a band that plays all of those Cambodian rock n roll songs from the 60s/70s that I've been obsessed with ever since Milly got me hooked on the Cambodian Rocks compilation!! I had to go, it had to be done!
Things fell together, thankfully. Meredith's work schedule for the movie she's working on fell in to a decent enough time frame and Lisa found out that her ride to Comicon was delayed until Saturday morning. Fuck yeah we were going to rock out!
The show was fantastic. Just as good as I fantacized that it would be. The three of us grooved along as the singer of Dengue Fever enchanted the crowd with her amazing voice, mostly singing in Khmer. Les Sans Culottes had us dancing, laughing and drooling simultaneously.
More poorly photographed scenes are located here.
